MOTHER'S DAY

she's shaking off the sadness
managing the madness
reveling in gladness
when e'er a moment's joy
making room for joy
the memories are fading
words evaporating
the stories want relating
appear behind her eyes
still luminous, her eyes
more than I can say, it's mother's day
more than reason, more than rhyme
more than I expect, I'm wanting to protect
what's meant to fade away in time --
it's precious time
her arms reach out to greet me
she signals there to seat me
her laughter rings completely
she walks the path ahead
but not so far ahead
she's standing in the trees now
lifted on a breeze now
everything she sees now
is neither old nor new
no difference 'tween the two
